The West Virginia Climate Alliance is a recently formed umbrella group that includes many key players and groups in West Virginia and the surrounding region (see list below) devoted to addressing the daunting challenges of the climate crisis.
See more on the Alliance, its members and focus below, as well as a first video by WestVirginiaVille’s AMP Multimedia, in which people from around the state tackle the question: “Why do you care about the climate crisis?”

The Climate Alliance is a coalition of environmental organizations, faith-based organizations, civil right and civic organizations, and young adults. Created in 2020, the Climate Alliance lists three goals for legislation addressing climate change:
- First, legislation must address environmental justice to ensure that communities of color are not disproportionately impacted by the transition to a low-carbon economy.
- Second, the Alliance promotes action that addresses a just or true transition for fossil fuel workers so that they are not left behind in this transition.
- Third, the Alliance wants to ensure emissions of greenhouse gases are reduced by a level that scientists have determined are necessary in order to avoid the worst impacts of climate change, such as increased flooding, more intense wildfires and more destructive hurricanes.
