This site’s WordPress plug-in and spam-catcher, Askimet, informs me that to date it has protected this site from 91,586 spam comments already. Plus, I am informed that “there are 106 comments in your spam queue right now.” Yet the problem with automatic spam-hoovering is that you miss some truly wondrous commentary that can brighten up your day. It did mine, when I paused in deleting those 106 comments, then proceeded to cull through them for the best, the most high-brow of spam-mentary. And I wonder: Are some of these glorious turns of phrase written by spambots? Or by an actual breathing human being, some over-worked Hindu 17-year-old, say, in an un-air conditioned warehouse in Mumbai, trying to turn out an appealing English sentence in a language he has never actually used? If so, here’s to you! Really, there should be a literary prize.
