Long before communities defined themselves by their ballparks and malls, they defined themselves by their churches. Charleston Gazette reporter Bob Schwarz takes you on an audio-visual guided tour of some of the most distinctive churches in Charleston, W.Va., from their architecture and stained glass, to their sacred spaces and gardens. Among the churches depicted: First Presbyterian, Kanawha United Presbyterian, Sacred Heart Co-Cathedral, Saint John’s Episcopal Church, Christ Church United Methodist and Baptist Temple. Set to a soundtrack of “Bach’s Old Coat” performed by Bob Webb (electric cello) and Heidi Muller (dulcimer) from the CD “The Hayslett Collection: A Musical Tribute” (http:/cdbaby.com/hayslett).
